DEADLY COLLAPSE IN CAPPADOCIA

A fairy chimney collapsed in Cappadocia.

Two people were killed.

The chimney that fell stood at the entrance of the Göreme Open-Air Museum.

It was right beside the open car park.

A large number of rescue and medical teams went to the scene at once.

The two people who died were reported to have been trapped under rocks that broke off the fairy chimney.

The collapse happened at 15:00.

It was a busy hour, but a larger disaster was avoided because the place where the chimney fell was not a walking area.

People were moved away because of the risk of another collapse.

In 2024, after snowfall in Cappadocia, a fairy chimney of tuff that had loosened collapsed at night with a loud noise.

There was no loss of life or property.

In 2025 a fairy chimney in the area partly collapsed.

Gendarmerie teams that went to the scene after the report took precautions there.
