The World Meteorological Organization said that below-normal rainfall is expected across broad parts of the northwest and southwest Pacific in the November 2026–January 2027 period.

This can increase pressure on countries that have already faced water shortages because of low rainfall in earlier months. Water problems were reported in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji and Tonga.

The outlook is not the same for the whole Pacific. Above-normal rainfall is expected along the equator from Nauru toward eastern Kiribati.
