A stock-market scandal has also broken in China these days.

Yi Huiman, the former chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, was sentenced to death in a corruption investigation.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission is responsible for supervising the stock market.

The former chairman was accused of taking bribes as part of the corruption investigation.

The court found that Yi Huiman abused his administrative posts at the securities commission and in the administration of the Xinjiang Uyghur region between 1998 and 2025.

It was established that the former official took 436 million yuan in bribes, about 3.2 billion lira at the current rate.

He was then sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve.

He was also stripped of his political rights, and his personal assets were confiscated.

Yi confessed to his crimes.

Because he returned part of the assets obtained through bribery, his sentence was reduced by the reprieve.

Under Chinese law, if the defendant commits no crime for two years, the sentence will be converted to life imprisonment.

Yi, who took over the commission in 2019, became the second chairman of the institution to face a corruption investigation.

The chairman before Yi had also been accused of taking bribes and of favouritism in share sales in his home province of Jiangsu.
